Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater | Book Review

(I kind of like the cover.)

Another throwback review!  I'm about to post a review for Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, so I thought I'd go dig up my old review of Shiver on Goodreads and post it here for your reading pleasure.  But guess what?  I never wrote a review of Shiver!  I really don't feel like I can think back nearly two years (I read it and rated it in August 2012) and do it justice, so I'll just let you know that I only gave it 1 of 5 stars on Goodreads.  And here's Goodreads' synopsis, so that at least you're caught up on plot before I post the review of Linger on Monday:

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without.

Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.
