When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor... and Yourself by Steve Corbett & Brian Fikkert | Book Review

My pastor recommended this book to the congregation while we were going through the "Get Off Your Donkey" video series and I'm so glad I read it!  It was really illuminating and well-written.  I had never even considered that some forms of "helping" could actually be hurting the people we're trying to help!

In When Helping Hurts, Steve Corbett & Brian Fikkert talk about different ways that individuals and organizations hurt the poor or disenfranchised through their misguided attempts to help.  They give lots of examples of times when helping would actually hurt, and examples of how to properly and most effectively help.  I really like that:  they not only address the problem, but give the reader a guide to correct action!

Another plus:  this book is laid out with a short paragraph introducing a topic at the beginning of each chapter, and a chapter overview and discussion questions at the end of each chapter, making this a great book to use in book clubs or classes.
