Top Ten Tuesday

This is a neat weekly feature over at a blog I really enjoy, The Broke and the Bookish.  They read books similar to some that I've been reviewing, and they're fun and they write well.  Totally worth checking out!

Top Ten Books I Want to Reread!
These are not actually in any particular order this week, because I love them all so much and for so many different reasons!

1. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.  I've read the entire series two or three times, and the first book five or six times, but I never tire of it.  And it's been at least 10 years since the last time I read it.

2. The Monkey Wrench Gang and Hayduke Lives! by Edward Abbey.  These were my first two Edward Abbey books, and they caused me to fall in love with his writing.  I went on to read every single thing he ever wrote.  This included an ILL request at my library for a pamphlet he wrote for a Sierra Club in AZ.

3. The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien.  I've read these three times already, and am already looking forward to a fourth read.

4. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.  The hubby introduced me to this series, and he did a reread of them last year, which made me want to do a reread.  The series is so good that by the time I reached the seventh book I had to stay up all night to finish it and see how it ended!

5. Velva Jean Learns to Drive by Jennifer Niven.  This was such an awesome story of coming of age and resilience under tough circumstances.

6. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.  This book is fantastic.  I listened to it on audio, read by the author, and spent nearly the whole book laughing out loud in my car like a lunatic.  But I loved it!

7. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein.  So very, very, very well-written!  And so unique.  I'd love to reread it, but I'm a little nervous that it could fall flat because I know the ending.  I might need to wait few more years before I reread this one.

8. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.  So good!  And set in the South!  With "characters" galore.  Reading it made me want to visit Savannah.  Maybe someday I can go on a trip to Savannah and reread it while there.

9. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.  I've already read it twice, but I want to read it again!  I love this book.

10. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.  I've read the various books multiple times, preparing for new releases, but I'd love to reread the entire series straight through.

What about you?  What books do you think are good enough to revisit?  Leave a link; I'd love to know what others are reading!

  2. Great list! I loved The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Code Name Verity. Of course, you can't go wrong with King, Rowling, or Tolkien, either. Berendt is on my tbr and Abbey will be going on it, too.

  3. I seldom re-read just because there are so many new and different books waiting to be read. I will read JRR Tolkien over and of course Anne Shirley feels like a kindred spirit, she can be read any day. Fun list today. Have a nice week. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

  4. I am reading Harry Potter for the first time with our mom/kids book club. We are up to the last book and hope we can finish before the end of the year. I am impressed you've read the LOTR series so many times, I am intimidated to read it once. I remember liking Midnight when I read it, wouldn't mind rereading it. Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  6. Gone with the Wind and Harry Potter are ones that I have re-read, and probably will again. The Dark Tower series are not my favorite Stephen King books. I think I've only read the first 3, and it was so long ago that I'd probably have to re-read them before I could read on in the series. Great list!
